Maximum Image Upload

Do you think it's bad forum etiquette to simultaneously post a large number of images to the Gallery? Do you think there should be a limit imposed (if it's possible to set one up)? What are your views?

Hmm, i think there should be a limit....
I think it would be helping everyone, because now you post something and like 15 minuts later someone else mass posts 10 images....That means that the number of comments on your post won't be very high. And that i think is the reason that you shouldn't be able to upload more then 3 images a day...with like a 15 minut time span in it.

If it is possible, I think it would make the biorust community even better!!

yeah i agree with the 3 image a day limit. it would also be awesome if you could comment on battle entries in the same way as those entered into the gallery. is there anyway of achieving this?

I must agree with you on that! It’s kind of sad to see a dozen half ready images instead of one fully worked. And for those who get left behind. I think most galleries on the net have a limit for uploading.
This site has really grown for the past years. So it could be a good idea, if it’s possible.

This i quite a good idea, because there are a lot of images which look quite the same, when you look at the overview of the gallery. I know that it would be impossible, to manually check the uploaded images, but maybe it'll be nice idea to upload some of them in the Work in Progress area, instead of the gallery.

I don't think the images would have to be manually checked - I'm just wondering if there's an Admin option that Man1c M0g could set to limit the number of simultaneous uploads.

Posting stuff in the Work In Progress area is an excellent idea, however. I'm sure this option doesn't occur to some people.

You know, I have to agree on all points with all of you too. Three submissions sounds reasonable to me. I would like to add excessive use of "in your face" (large/bold) advertising. It does pop up here from time to time.
I really like this site and don't mean to complain, but these thoughts are for the betterment of the site.

i think i just don't get it, why is advertising which pops up something you want to add. Don't you get enough advertising, when you just surf around ?
Please correct me if i misunderstood you, but i think advertising sucks, if it is not for the sake of the site, to host it or whatever...

Oh no, sorry for the confusion hen-zen. I would like to keep the advertising of web-sites on submissions to a quite roar. I get all the advertising I can handle every day! Less is best! So sorry for the confusion.

thx for cooling me down class_act, but i hate sites which are so full of ads, you have problems finding the content.

How many votes do you need to limit the upload per day...For me the result is quite obvious...

Tamlin!

I have carefully considered your question and after much though, I agree with you...

There should be a limit on the number of images a person can upload to the gallery every 24 hours. I think 3 is ok, but would not be opposed to 1.

To me, the purpose of the gallery is to post art or photos that one is particularly proud of to garner comments and perhaps constructive criticism.

Slamming the gallery with 7 or eight images in a row weakens the value of the gallery as I assume others are like me, and glance through the first few images (maybe leaving a comment or two) and then move on. Those who post an image or two for comment will find little or no interest in their work because most people never get to see it.

I am guilty of doing what we are discussing here... I uploaded 4 (or maybe 5) images in a row one night as I was impressed by your photos and decided to show-off some of my creativity.

Not long after that however, someone uploaded 4 or 5 more and mine were lost in the crowd so to speak...

So I agree that a limit would improve the quality of the gallery immensely. Whether implemented by Manic Mog or not, I will refrain from posting more than 3 images from now on...

The more I think about it though, a limit of 1 image every 24 hours would be more than enough for me... I'm here often enough.

Mike.

I dunno, call me the guilty n00b perpetrator or something, but I work on a lot of small projects for no other reason than myself, or I like to take a lot of pictures, but I don't always have time to post them when I take/make them. When I do get the time to post, I want to be able to post them all.

Instead, why don't you guys line them up by the latest users to post up to the gallery, and show their most recent posts? (just an idea...)

I understand your point of view Illuzen.

I would ask you though what the purpose of posting your images would be if not to receive feed back on them?

The problem tamlin has brought up is that mass posts from one user causes the previous posts to dissappear from the main gallery screen... and most users won't go deep into the individual galleries and leave comments. Therefore, the poster (or artist) receives no feedback or comments and the purpose is lost.

What we end up with is a huge gallery full of images that most BioPOSTers havn't seen...

I'm drawn to BioPOST because it seems to value Quality over Quantity. What we are debating here, is simply an effort to maintain that premise. Mass posting of images for no real purpose can be done on any number of other sites.

Like i said in my previous post, i considered tamlin's question carefully and admitted that I had been an offender.

Unless the site admin changes the system, you are of course free to do what you wish... I however, will choose to restrict my posts to one or two images at a time out of respect for other BioRUSTers.

Mike.

Thanks for all the feedback - I'm pleased that most of you seem to agree with me.

IlluZen: I fully understand your eagerness to show all your work when you've done it - I think everyone who posts in the Gallery feels the same sense of pride in their work, otherwise why post it in the first place? - but as the other members have stated, exercising a little self-control makes the Gallery better for everyone. As Mike (notjustgraphics) has pointed out, most people who post their work would like some comment or constructive criticism, but (in my experience) posting a large number of images at the same time seems to have the opposite effect. It puts people off and the poster doesn't get any comments at all.
