image gallery

could we have a user based gallery?

some forums have these, they seem really attractive to visitors who want to join forums that have decent graphic artists.

Every member could upload their best ever images to the gallery and we could vote for each other and also let guests place comments.

Another idea could be having a splash page to the site, that would also look cool.

Hey, point me to a vbulletin 3 script, and i'll install it for you! I have an end-point plan of making Biorust an art-group based around intelligent design (i.e. a bit like Breed). I have no intention of developing us into a deviantart though - i just couldn't afford the resources, nor have the time to manage it really...

Does this sound like an achievable long-term goal to you?

I personally like 5-0's idea. I think it would improve the look of the forums and maybe even attract more people.
Only problem is, I have no best art. *cry* *whine* Just joking really.

I think this would be a GREAT idea also. It would really motivate me to do more artwork to put into my portfolio.

Well, its a simple idea and, with Vbulletin's quota management for attachments, it should be very easy to maintain bloat as well. The question remains though.... has anyone seen a script that could handle this sort of thing easily?

AHA! How about Albinator? Its a commercial solution and will require a temple rewrite, but it looks spanky, and we have the resources to support it. Whatcha think?

Looks nice but it's pricey -- I'm sure there is an alternative for free or cheaper... I searched today and found a free one for vBulliten 2.0.... I'll keep looking

Cost is never particularly an issue for me Bub. In my life, its time thats the ultimate currency. I'm not looking forward to designing a new skin.... :/

Sounds good to me! I'll have a more in-depth look at it... and you may see it on the Biorust forums real soon! :P

Update: Ok, i've purchased albinator and i'm now just awaiting their sales rep to set me up with a customer service password so I can download the software. Depending on how complex it is to install, you may see it tomorrow.... or I may delay until Monday, when I'll have a whole day to devote to it.

Darn, I wish I was here to comment before you made the purchase. What does it cost..? *looks*

Assuming you for the professional version, $99?

Not bad, but I think that our current forum was highly substancial and needed not have any type of replacement.

m0g, about not starting a DeviantArt, if you saved the money, you have a dedicated staff already and I'm sure you could find more. I think you should shoot for the stars and never limitate your long goal to anything less than a google and yahoo combined.

For all you know you could have your staff run it and have barely any work need be done. You know?

Moving along, I hope this thing improves the site and is put to use for the money you spent because I would feel bad if it got no more attention than the Showcae forums.

Well, we shall see.
