Question about using tutorials.
How do most people use the tutorials? I am so new to photoshop and corel painter that I have trouble remembering one step to the next. Do you keep the tutorial active at the bottom of your computer with the [ - ] button (see I don't even know what that is called, sheesh) or do you copy and print the tutorials or do you just remember what you read? Just curious as to the way most people use them. Thanks

when i used tutorials i found it easier to print them off, then have the hard copy next to me while i was working in photoshop. this is probably just personal preference, because you could just as easily Alt + Tab between windows instead.
knowing where the buttons are and all that is just something that comes after using computers for a while.
good luck!

i keep them both maximized.. have only those two things open, the tut and the program, and i just click back and forth.. read step one.. do it.. step two.. do it.. ect.. i never thought of printing it out though.. that sounds like abetter idea. its easier when its in front of your face.. duh!!<to myself.. lol good idea!!

I'm a lucky goit and have two monitors, so its pretty easy to work in one window whilst having the browser open in the 2nd window. Before that, unfortunately, I was continually switching between the windows... which was very annoying and quite slow.

No luck in it really - just lots of hard and boring work with an (eventual) reward. I want a 30" Dell monitor actually... but even *I* can't justify that!

Sure you can! You run a graphics-related website - that makes you a "graphics professional". I don't know how it is, there, but, if you were in America, you could even write it off your taxes as a business expense.
And - come on, be honest - what you REALLY want is TWO 30" monitors, right?

LOL! Yeah, but unfortunately graphics design is more of a hobby than a full-time occupation, and the tax people here are loathed even to give me a refund for my yearly professional fees, nevermind anything else! Hmmm... I really need an accountant!
Oh, and yes... two 30" monitors would be most welcome! I'd have to buy a darlek to protect them though!

Thanks! I get really frustrated with myself for not being able to remember what I read 5 minutes ago so I will have to try both ways to see what works best. I assuming printing will work the best. Sometimes when my son is using his computer to down load stuff my computer seems to be the one on the waiting list. Dang kids! I've been bugging my son to find me another monitor though I really want one of those big ones. Beggers can't be choosy though so until I can afford a big one anything he can find me to make work will be great for me. I can never find enough room to work on my images. Thanks again! Nanc

Since you seem rather new to this kind of thing, Nancy, I shall suggest yet another method, which you may or may not be aware of.
On the webpage that is open, go to 'File' at the top, select 'Save As' or 'Save Webpage As', choose a name, and save it to your desktop or just anywhere it is convenient. (I actually have a huge, organized, 'Tutorials' folder in my harddisk, with subsections for each program and such. =D)
Once this is done, you just click on the .htm or .html file to open the tutorial again. This way, you don't have to be online to check a previous tutorial at all.
The entire tutorial is now saved onto your harddisk. But links on the tutorial will not work until you connect to the Internet, so don't click them. If you accidentally did, and got a 'Web Page not Found' or similar error message, just click the 'Back' button at the top of your window. It is usually an arrow pointing backwards ( <= ).

sure... I'm glad that I have 2 19" monitors. Basically for webdesign, I now use it for photoshop and those bittersweet tutorials... but before that - when I not switched back and forth - I used to print them out, which is imho the best way to take some additional notes

I have not got the luxury of having two monitors. So I flick back and forth between the tutorial and photoshop whilst keeping my fingers crossed that my ancient and very slow PC doesn't plunge me into blue screen hell and force me to re-boot. Memo to myself:- Buy new PC!

Many great suggestion on how to use and store the tutorials.
It's nice knowing I am not alone.
