Gallery

I hope no one gets mad at me for writing this but I have few suggestions for the gallery. When I look at the gallery images I see that most of them are kind "just playing around with..." So what I'm suggesting is that keep it like that BUT let's make another gallery for better pieces. Something like "elite gallery". The name can be pretty much anything just that it needs to tell people that the best pieces of Biorust can be found there.

Now how would you get your image there? There are several possibilities:

1. Create a rating system for gallery images and when image recieves for example at least 10 votes with average value at least 3.5 (0-5 scale) it would be transferred to the elite gallery

2. Administrator would just pick the ones which qualify for elite gallery

So members would post their image to the normal gallery and then it could get promoted to the elite gallery if it would meet the requirements. How does this sound to you?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so is quality and magnificence. A good gallery will post whatever a member uploads. Yes, some of what is posted surely is lacking---but as you travel thru a members gallery you can see changes, improvements, emotional ups and downs. It is a very personal look at who a member is, was, and where he/she is headed.

I do not like the idea of an exclusionary gallery-----but, contest winners gallery would be okay. Someone wins the contest, place the image in a special gallery, let the gallery grow as the number of contest winners grows. Winners determined by other members, not just a few.

One of the reasons I luv Biorust is that it is so inclusionary; all are welcome, all my participate, all are equal, all are treated fairly, friendly, and with care. I believe that is why our member numbers are growing so quickly.

Those are just my feelings---what do others think?

In my long-term vision for BioRUST there is the 'Battles' section. This will allow users to pit their skills against each other in various difficulty levels... and the winner of each battle will have their image displayed for all to see. Via easy browsing you'll also be able to see who has won the most battles, browse their images, etc. Kinda like a system running alongside the gallery but not replacing it. That way we can have the best of both worlds.

All we need is for Scrowler to finish coding it... *coughs and looks at scrowler evilly*

Well, there will be a 'beginner' difficulty for newbies too. Unlike other sites, though, I have absolutely no intention of creating a community that runs like a big popularity contest. Its all gonna be about art and self-improvement, and i'll try to keep that whole community spirit going, even if that is at the expense of greater pageviews.

Well, the battles themselves will be set by the users...and so will the rewards. Everyone winning a battle gets an award at the appropriate difficulty setting... and the prize set by the user. It doesn't have to be anything big (i'll personally opt for a postcard from the loser), but the whole spirit of competing will hopefully give people something to get their teeth into whilst improving their skillz. As for the competitions.... yes, they are indeed very hard... but they are the 'expert' level stuff, and the rewards are that much higher.

Hmm.... Hard to explain in words I guess. I think you'll like the end product when it finally gets finished...

I like the idea, it would make BioRUST alot better. Not saying that BioRUST isn't already great, but it would make it better. But really, will it have a category system? Cause i'm not really that good at much, but i'm good at some things, like layouts and such. WEEEEEE!!!
