It has to do with the download system trying to stop people from direct linking and taking bandwidth. M0g, our glorious master and commander has been trying to work out the few bugs. If you are running any Norton products, perhaps disable and then try again.

Arrgghhh! I thought I had this bug totally squashed! Back to the drawing board I guess... :/

PS. One alternative is that I make downloads and linkbase voting member-only features. This would kill hotlinkers, bots, and link-indexers in their tracks, but will it drive less-frequent visitors away? Opinions plz... :/

Personally, I hate "member-only" options. It gets annoying and it's a huge turn-off for me.

If done properly, member-only can bring in more members, especially if the resources are worthwhile, and keep the members excited. To sign up is a slight annoyance, but one that many will do, after all, we all had to sign up to even be here.

If you could integrate the site membership with the forums that would help a big bit.

It is integrated!

Hmmmm.... maybe I should put this registering thing down to a member vote? I'll set it up later...

Okay I am brand new to this site but here is my 2 cents worth anyway. Require membership for downloading. It's a small price to pay for free stuff.

Voting is a no brainer. If people are not involved they shouldn't be inputting their opinions. If they want to get involved, then registering is no big deal.

Either a person is a member of a community or they aren't. If it is too much trouble or they find it too annoying to register, let them go somewhere else. It's not as if they are bringing anything to the table anyway.

I am in agreement totally with this. And welcome to Biorust, cardmnal.

My thoughts have changed and I agree as well. I was looking at it from a different perspective.

By joining, not only do members benefit from downloads but they get to enjoy the greatest community ever. BioRUST has the best atmosphere of any forum I've gone too. Thanks to the members!
