Sad way to end a battle

5 people entered the sports jersey battle (including me) and I ended up throwing something together last minute to not hold things up. No-one else submitted their entry.

Any thoughts on why a large number of the battles are going with people not submitting an entry?

Perhaps it's the extended time between when a battle is posted and when voting starts? I don't have the answer, but thought others might have some ideas.

The time spans are huge.

I'm not an old hand at battling or anything like that, but 2 weeks to get entries, then 2 weeks for voting seems colossal.

People must either forget, or just get complacent.

It hapens way to often that people won't submit any work....
And about the time span.....yes it is collosal, the voting part can in my opinion be like three days. And the submit your work i think is good....

A shame so many people forget to enter...maybe that is because nothing is "driving" them....

I agree with unleash, the submission part is generous, but we all have busy lives. Maybe once you agree to enter there should be reminders sent on a regular basis to jog memories, therefore "the driving force". Three days for voting is alittle short in my opinion, give it a week tops. I have only entered one battle, but I do take the time to vote on all that come up.

That is true, I do also vote on al battles...And i think there are reminders send.....but not that often...like you get one when you can submit your work and than you get one when you have three days left...
They should be send way more often!!

If there were ways to change how long the waiting period was, it could attract more people to that battle. Like, 7 days, or 24hrs to submit work and similar to voting periods, then allow people to make longer battles that take a month or more to settle. A month to start and finish a battle is more like a full scale war and can be very tedious waiting lol

I've only entered one battle so far and my work was submitted about an hour after reading about it. Time should be part of the battle really. A month is a bit too much for me and why I probably won't enter many battles.

I'm starting to think it's actually the entry period that kills things a bit. When the battle is open to several people it often takes the full 2 weeks to allow people to submit their work. People lose interest before then.

Perhaps if it could be modified to shorten the entry period and to allow people to post their work before the entry period is completed, it could help.

I'd suggest negative credits for not submitting work, but that would just discourage people from entering even more.

Is it Moog that would look into making these changes?

Thanks for the feedback guys! I intend to do a full review of the battles system starting in the new year, and I'll be looking for ways to kill the submission latency in the meantime. I already have a few ideas concentrating on the mechanics of submission, but more are always welcome!

I guess I never really read the rules carefully.

I just assumed you couldn't enter until you had a peice ready to be submitted. That would be a pain for the one on ones but I just figured the other ones were just enter as you finish your work. Never really thought about it.

Maybe you can have some sort of basic sign up for a week and then see how many still plan to submitt. I think for me if I am excited about something, if I don't start it in that first week, I peter out and never get started. They could still have the longer time limit to finish it but you could weed out those that don't plan to do it and maybe give someone else a chance to enter. That might be to much administrative work though, I guess.
