*FINISHED* Word theme contest 1of12: Renewal
*** COMPETITION FINISHED ***
Ok guys, time for a word association contest! If enough entries are submitted for each and every contest along this theme, an official BioRUST calendar will be made of the winning entries, and a percentage of the profits given back to the original authors. Here are the guidelines:
Do your work in a psd(make sure you save the psd.)
DPI: 300 (NOT 72dpi, which is the PS default).
Size: 2400px by 3000px
Color Mode: RGB Color
Layout: Landscape
When submitting your entry to the gallery, make it a .gif or .jpg at a resolution of 1200x1500 or lower - nothing to massive! Winners will be asked to send their full-size version later.
This comptetion will end on the 26th of January. So get on it!
Now heres the word: Renewal.
All images must be submitted to http://forums.biorust.com/photopost/...ry.php?cat=517 to qualify. Have fun and the best of luck to you all!
Jeremiah

Isn't it easier for the contestants if you created a template or something that they could just open up? That way they start out with the right settings and they don't have to find out in the end that it is all wrong...

There's actually no need! If you create a new document in Photoshop, you can just select the '8 x 10' preset, and it'll enter all the settings above for you!

K, I'm pretty new to this, so I was wondering if there's any other guidelines.. I don't have a clue what you mean by Layout: Landscape and Word Theme: Renewal..
Am i supposed to make a landscape in Photoshop that makes me THINK of renewal, or is a metaphor for renewal, or do I make a landscape and add TEXT on it.. I'm a little lost, if you could just fill me in so I don't end up doing it all wrong =\
Thanks a lot in advance,
emmy

Instead of your image looking like a page out of a book, turn your canvas so that the long side actually becomes the width of your document, make sense? As far as the word renewal, I am interpreting that as a metaphor for the month of January, could be wrong, if I am, I'm sure someone will clarify. Did the info on the dpi make sense to you? If it didn't, just post and let someone know. Hope this helps, and if what I am saying is inaccurate someone out there correct me.

And ya the dpi stuff I understand, 72 is for internet stuff- thats about all I knwo but I know how to change it.
Thanks for all your help! I really appreciate it.

Hi, I agree. Please can you set guidelines. I now you want the word renewal, but... do I send a picture, do I have to type the word, do I have to do both, what are the other "administrative contest rules"? Please let us know. Thank you.

Ok, sorry if all that was confusing. Let me try and simplify this. Your document needs to have width of 10 inches and a height of 8 inches. The term "Landscape" simply means that your image is wider than it is tall. set the dpi to 300, because if you win your work may be published. Now make what you think best represents the word renewal. Yes, this is a metaphor for the month of January. You can use the word Renewal in your work if you want to, but its not reqired.
Once you are done with your artwork. save it as a psd and put it away somewhere on your computer where you can't lose it. Open the document one more time and go to Image > Image size > Change the width box from 3000px to 800px Select ok. Now save this as a jpg and exit. This jpg is what you should submit to the gallery. That measure is strictly there to save our good friend mog bandwidth. I think I covered everything. If you have anymore questions you can pm me.

Yup! Exactly as you said. (As long as it fulfills the required dimensions, etc, of course... .

What do you mean by change the DPI to 300? How would i do this? And would we start off with a picture and then modify it to fit renewal or do we make our own picture?

Regarding the dpi: when you open a new document, File>New, one of the options to select is the resolution, which is measured in dots per inch (dpi). Where it says Resolution, double-click and type 300. For the size, the width is 10 inches and the height is 10 inches, mode RGB, and I almost always select Transparent for the Contents.
You will make the decision as to whether you start off with a picture and then modify it or make your own.
Please take the time to read all of the previous postings on this thread and I think you will find all your questions are answered.
Good luck!
