Pretty interesting take on the future of digital photography.
And we all know how far away the future is in the digital world. :-)

As more and more features become automatic,
less and less of the artist will show.
somtimes its the slight imperfections or the way the light gets used by the photographer that makes the shot stand out.
i can only imagine how often a desired effect would be overrun by the camera deciding otherwise.
of course it could be fixed in ps. or overridden on the cameras settings, but thats just more adjusting and whatnot that has to be dealt with by the photographer before the shot can be taken.

we here already blur the line between photographer and software user. how much longer until the software is the main focus and the camera is merely an extention of the software? where unless you are fluent in the software, you cant get the picture you intended. even though it would be as easy as piont and click with a throwaway film camera.

I understand what you are saying, but some of the things shown were no more than the depth of field preview I used to have on my old Minolta SRT 102. Its just more tools and, from what I understand, we can choose to use them or not. No camera I own will delay taking a picture until it detects a smile. ;-) Some of my subject WON'T be smiling than you very much. lol

i understood the selective focusing as to be a file that could be altered post shot.
(change the focus on the pc)

good luck getting O-Julia to grin.

just seems like some of the features are geared towards the "gotta have it" buyer,
as opposed to the "do I need it?" buyer

I think all would-be photographers would benefit from reading Ken Rockwell's excellent essay Your Camera Doesn't Matter:
