Testing firm AV-Comparatives.org has released test results for 17 products using almost half a million sample files.
The tests used numerous different categories of malware, including dialers, trojans, backdoors, and a special test of 12 "high polymorphic viruses" (Bub or Tamlin could enlighten us as to what the heck that might be); on 2 products--Symantec Norton Anti-Virus 14.0.0.89 and ESET NOD32 Anti-Virus 2.70.23---detected all 12.
Alone among the products tested, Microsoft's OneCare did not qualify for certification, and in fact it didn't even reach levels required for participation in future tests.
