BioCredits System

After a lengthy and detailed discussion with all the members of the BioRUST staff, it has been decided to introduce a credits system. The idea is simple - You use up one BioCredit per resource download, and gain Biocredits in the following ways:
  • TWO BioCredits for each post made in the Forums/Gallery.
  • ONE credit for every vote made in the battles section.
  • TEN credits for every successful battle fought (nothing if you default).
  • HALF a credit for every vote made in the webindex.

We spend a lot of our time bringing you all these resources for absolutely free, so is just a few minutes of your time in return too difficult to ask? Hell, you might even learn something!

If you are looking for quick ways to build up your credits, you may wish to heed the following advice:

Hint #1: Reputation has a massive effect on your BioCredit total. If you make helpful posts, other members will give you a +1 bonus to your reputation, which will count towards 10 BioCredits. Anyone who has a post count of 1 or greater can add or remove reputation from other members, and the amount of reputation that you can give/remove increases directly with your own reputation score.
Hint #2: Spam will be deleted promptly and offenders given a -1 penalty to their reputation. This penalty may also be given by other members to people who make troublesome or unconstructive remarks, so keep your posts constructive and spam-free.
Hint #3: If you don't feel like posting in the forum, go into the gallery and give feedback. Earn reputation bonuses by giving as much detail in your feedback as you can! Simple 'its cool' comments tend not to impress anybody.
Hint #4: If you really don't feel like talking at all, go and rank sites in the webindex section. Each vote you cast gives you +0.5 BioCredits. Resist the urge to just click any old score - there is truly nothing that I can do to stop you, but you destroy the quality of the index... and in the end that penalizes everyone.
Hint #5: If you want mega BioCredit rewards, contribute to the tutorials section! Each tutorial gets in the region of 10 to 30 reputation points each, which equates to a massive 100-300 BioCredit bonus!

If you have any questions or feedback, just post in this thread, and you will be answered as promptly as possible.

Update on 18/Nov/05: Following a review, the BioCredits system has been reweighted, giving more rewards to forum posts, and less to votes. These changes have been entered above.

Update on 15/Sep/06: The rules have been revised to include the new battles system, and rewards for participating, voting, etc.

Great Idea.
How can we tell how many credits we have?
Do we get those credits for things done before this update to the site?
Two of my gallery posts are pretty helpfull.
Oh and is there a limit of how long or short tutorials can be?

You'll find this information just below your avatar picture in the membership sidebar of the main pages. A few people have asked where they can find it, though, so perhaps I need to move it at a later date to somewhere a little clearer...

When your previous actions relate to forum/gallery posts, then YES, all previous participation is recognized. The credits system simply reads the vbulletin posts score. Unfortunately this does not extend to webindex votes, which require a new logging field, and are therefore only counted since the system was put into place.

There are no set limits, but I'd say that at least 3-4 steps makes a good tutorial. Its mainly about quality as opposed to quantity. The reputation bonus that you get is directly relational to the overall usefulness of your work. I'll correct spelling and grammar mistakes, so don't worry about that. As a general rule, a translation will earn you 5 rep points, a simple 1 page tutorial will get you 10 points, a multi-page masterpiece 30 points... and it goes from there. I also offer out reputation bonuses from time to time for the winners of various design competitions, etc.

Just a quick change... some people were getting confused by the fact that the reputation system started at 10, which made it kinda difficult to work out how it affected your points. To clarify this little oversight, I have now set the default reputation to 0. Everyone's reputation score has been adjusted accordingly, and the calculation scripts corrected.

This is so we get some of your participation and you get resources we have compiled. This means we can hopefully get some of you participating in these forums and get things rolling into an awesome community. So please, help out!

Idea?

Maybe it could be a good idea to make a "Top 10 Credits" just for the better fun part of it... maybe its just me, but think it could be funny

this encourages people to spam alot just to get highly ranked, especially in website index where spam cannot be fixed. quality, not quantity.

Hmmm. Very true! On the other hand, it might work via a reputation-based approach... as spam would be heavily penalized by everyone (i.e. your vbulletin reputation). I'll look into this in due course...

Persoanlly I think this system is awsome.
I think there is a thing you can also install so that spam does'nt count...
I can't remember it now though.
And I'm not making sence. It's too early....lol

Hmmmm. There are quite a lot of people opting for the voting option... which is nice, but we really want them talking. Shall we drop votes in the webindex to 1/2 a credit each? Opinions please!

i suppose thats true, and it would take an unbelievable amount of spamming to get onto the top 10 scrowler thinks...

Yes, you do. Check with M0g, I received a URL that I give to prospective users for them to post and that is how it is tracked. Check with M0g, or maybe someone else can give you a specific location onsite to go to.

Ooh, goody. (I know where the url is found, I just didn't know whether I'd get a reward in credits for referring).
