Due to recent abuse by people entering deliberately fraudulent e-mail addresses (and, in some cases, e-mail addresses that are functional but NOT theirs), I will soon be enabling e-mail authentication for all new membership accounts on Biorust. In practice, this will mean that anyone signing up for membership will have to click on a link sent to them via e-mail before they are a full member and able to post comments in the forums, rate links, and download resources. Existing members will not be affected. I will, however, be taking steps to delete the accounts of all people whose e-mails bounce.
I'm sorry that this step was needed, but the amount of bounced e-mail is getting silly now, and something has to be done about it. Long-term members will know that we do not send spam to our members - in fact, we have only sent one e-mail to all our members before, and that was when I released Biorust v3 (the current design!). Whilst it is true that a newsletter may become a reality soon, it will have an opt-out capability, and will be once monthly only anyway! So don't worry - your e-mail addresses are safe with us, and we will never sell them on to spammers, e-marketers, Fidel Castro, or any other nefarious characters...
Update 7/July @ 10:33pm - This change has now been actioned. Members whose e-mails bounce will now have one of two things done to them. If they have posts, they will be moved back into the 'Users awaiting e-mail authorisation' usergroup and will be unable to do much until they reactivate, and users without posts will simply have their accounts deleted.
