IRC Network Moved!

After much deliberation, digestion, and cogitation, we have decided to move the site's IRC channel over to the QuakeNet IRC network. Whilst our old network, Blitzed, certainly did a sterling job of accomodating us over the last year, a massive amount of the people who visit us actually hang around on the Quakenet IRC network, and found it difficult to continually flip between the two networks. Fortunately, however, I've been able to resurrect some of Rustbot's old abilities, such as thread announcing, google searches, etc - all thanks to the better network architecture of Quakenet. Sooo.... if you want to chat, you may want these details:

IRC Server: irc.quakenet.org
Ports: 6667-6670
Channel: #biorust

If you don't have any idea how to use IRC, however, our trusty JAVA IRC client is still operational and will automatically link you up to our new location on the new network. Just load up and chat!

Anyone having troubles connecting?

Very odd! Try using one of the other servers over at http://staff.quakenet.org/servers.phtml - its not a very complete list (Quakenet is HUGE), but it lists the most reliable servers. I'm using b0rk.uk.quakenet.org myself...

when i first looked at who was online on the forums it said @L (i didnt know who that was), +cM|Away (or similar) and +RuStBot

now i was gonna connect and de-op/voice the L user because i didn't know who he was and suspected he had hijacked the channel...

i load up mirc, click connect... and theres only me in the room.. no rustbot.

hmm.... then i see irc has changed servers (silly me for not reading the announcements).

i try to connect to the new server, it tells me there are no servers to connect to in the asia-pacific region so i cant go into chat, i tried webchat, that didnt work either...

i tried it now, i got about 5 connection timed out messages then finally it connects...

what was the reason for moving servers?

Its very odd that you cannot connect to IRC. Try one of the other servers already mentioned in this post. The reasons are clearly stated in this thread also BTW - its mainly to do with getting more visitors in the channel, which is something the old blitzed network did very poorly.

NB. Don't worry about L - its a channel control bot entirely under my power...

Oh, I thought it was one of your IRC friends rofl. Maybe he should get a more descriptive name like RustBot lol.

Sure I am! Just register with Q, auth yourself, and i'll get you sorted out. To get started just type in /msg Q hello email email - from there on it should be well explained...
