Adobe Systems Inc. acquires Macromedia
Adobe Systems Incorporated has announced an agreement to buy Macromedia for approximately $3.4 billion USD.
The combination of Adobe and Macromedia strengthens our mission of helping people and organizations communicate better. Through the combination of our powerful development, authoring and collaboration tools – and the complementary functionality of PDF and Flash – we have the opportunity to drive an industry-defining technology platform that delivers compelling, rich content and applications across a wide range of devices and operating systems.
By combining the passion and creativity of two leading-edge companies, we will continue driving innovations that are changing the ways people everywhere are experiencing and interacting with information.

Hopefully this is to the consumer's advantage. Without competition, will Adobe continue to strive to create innovative products? Or will development slow down dramatically?

Well spotted! Any chance you can make this a full news post (with clippets, etc), and then move it to the announcements forum? This sort of stuff would do great as main site news....

I caught the news this morning on CNN.

Interesting to see what happens next...especially in Macromedia's product area.

Provided you even use the inbuilt html wysiwyg editor. From about half a year ago i havent used it once, only text mode. Coding in php rocks in dreamweaver and thats NOT cheating

PHP is fun in almost any program, that is if you love programming. I find that there are some good editors for stuff, it comes down to personal preference.
