That's a simple trick really! Just add a static non-moving layer on top of all the others and give it a few transparent areas. Now make sure it doesn't move throughout all the animation frames and you have flames that will only show through the transparent area cut-outs!

Its quite simple really. All you have to do is create the flames as usual. THEN add a new layer on top of all the others with a transparent cutout area (in the shape of whatever text you want). Just make sure its present on all frames... and voila! Its done!

If you REALLY want a tutorial on it, though, just ask and I'll make one for you...

More realism

Nice tutorial, i've added something when i created it and it made it a bit nicer (by my opinion) ;-)
just add another layer above the layer with the word "fire" set it's transparancy to 35 (and set it to in english i dont know for sure the translation means: to cover (it's the one above soft light)) and duplicate the layer below the word "fire" to give it some light effect. play around with the settings untill it suits you fine, you can also select the word fire (the transparant parts) then enlare the selection create a border of that selection, then enlarge it again and fill it with the layer below the word fire, instead just pasting it above. then it will highlight the borders of the word, not the entire immage...
i'm sorry for my bad explenation, i'm no good in english ;-)

Very New ? I have Photoshop 7 but when I got to renders I don't see the option for fibers. What am I missing, or did I not to to have that show up?

Take a little look at that little disclaimer right at the top of the tutorial. It should answer all your questions.
