Question Need alittle help, making Vector Images in Photoshop CS3 Ext

Hi, I'm learning how to create vector images. I'm in the middle of working on My first one. And I've read many different tutorials on how to do them. However I'm still fairly new to Photoshop CS3 and it's tools. So some of the 'obvious' instructions that are left out in tutorials I can't follow. I picked beautiful image. The best tutorial I found so far has been the one featured on Melissa Clifton - Photoshop Tutorials, Animation, 2D, 3D and Illustration Galleries

I'm now working on defining the facial features and I'm stooped afraid to close the project scared it may not save all the hard work I've done lol. And god I don't want to start over. I'm wondering if there's anyone here that may be able to walk me through mastering drawing in and shading, gradients ,and also with adding highlights. That sort of thing. Here's where I am on the vector image as you can see it's really not the best example as it's my first attempt and I'm new to using the pen tool all together.

Any helpful feedback or suggestions would be of great help. Thank you for your time.

For my money, this is the most comprehensive tutorial covering this subject:

Learn how to make your own vectorportraits | Vectorportraits.com

It includes sections on skin shading, clothing and other details.

Of course, for "true" vector work, you should be using Illustrator, not Photoshop, but the above tutorial gives a very good overall result - as long as you're prepared to put in a reasonable amount of effort.

Oh - and as for being "afraid to close the project", don't forget Ctrl+S is your friend. Hit it on a regular basis.

Smile Thank you

Thank you so very much for taking the time to share this tutorial with me. This is one of the best "detailed" ones I've gotten and I've looked a quite a few. I've heard about Illustrator, however I'm not able to get that software just yet. But I will seek to do so in the near future. Thanks again for the help. I'll try to start over, using this tutorial.
