How Do You Do This?-baby-face.jpg

I want to be able to create a picture of my son like the one above.
Does anyone have any tutorials on how to do this?

What - specifically - do you want to know how to do? The B/W conversion? The blue eyes? The diffusion effect? The vignetting? Or the whole thing?
A little more information would be helpful.

Sorry Tamlin

Ideally I was looking for a step by step tutorial but i understand this may not be possible.
I've been tinkering with photoshop for years but I'm far from an expert.
At the moment I have cs3 extended version.

I have tried different techniques to get this result but the end product just doesn't compare to this. The eyes are the main focal point so understanding how this is done
would be my priority, but as I said earlier a step by step tutorial would be ideal

OK - I haven't written any tutorials in a while so I'll see if I can put one together today. I'll post here when it's done.

Just another quick question Tamlin.
Where did you get this knowledge of Photoshop?
Are you self taught or were you trained?
The reason I ask is that I am interested in learning how to use it properly and
wanted to know if there are courses on it

Well, I'm self taught - been using Photoshop since version 5 (I think). Basically, I just read lots of books and tried out lots of tutorials - and gathered useful snippets of information from forums like this one, of course! Then it's just a case of practice, practice, practice. And then more practice.

Many night schools and adult education centres run courses that cover the basics of Photoshop if you prefer a more tutor/student-based approach.

If you want formal qualifications, there is the official Adobe Certified program (similar to Microsoft Certification): Adobe Certified
I don't know how much the AC courses and exams cost, but I'm guessing they're far from cheap so you may only want to consider them if you are aiming for a career in professional graphic design.
