I don't really understand your question. Can you give more details?

You can't. A background by its very nature is in the first layer, and the foreground is a layer over the top of it. Its kinda like two objects being on the Z axis - one MUST be in front of the other or they'll occupy the same space and neither will be background/foreground - they'll merge.

You *CAN* make two layers and then flatten them onto one... but then you'll lose the editability of two layers.

What exactly is it that you want to do?

Maybe you want to create a gradient?? That way you can set the foreground with 1 color and the background with another and you will get the 2 color range in one layer.

To set these colors you have to click in the forground box at the bottom of the tool bar and a color picker box comes up where you can choose the color to your liking. This goes also for the background box.
Hope this helps

As for bringing old..... because unleash, because! :P

What you ask is impossible, if you have a foreground there also must be an background. If you want a foreground and a background in one layer, you neither have a foreground or a background as you need more than 1 layers to have both... otherwise the foreground will be the background and will therefore be neither one...

So if you give us some more info, what are you trying on doing? If you are following a tutorial, post a link so we can see. Maybe it is a good thing to post an screenshot of what you are trying to do/ are doing...

But as for bringing old... very old topics back to life, why silver bullet? why?
