Question Help !! Cannot download plug-ins into PS3

I have PS3 I downloaded plugins into (c) program files >adobe .adobe photoshop cs3>plug-ins> filters

they are 8BF files when I click on a file PS opens then I get a message saying

: could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document .

What am I doing wrong ??? I'm at my wits end !!! It's probably something simple I would guess , for the life of me I can't figure it out .

You cannot "open" a filter by clicking on the .8bf file.
To apply a filter, open an image in Photoshop and select Filter from the menu bar. The names of the filters you have installed will show up at the bottom of the dropdown menu - just click on the one you require and its interface will open to allow you to adjust its settings.

Sorry - I just spotted what (I think) you're doing wrong. You need to install any third-party (i.e. downloaded) filters/plug-ins in the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Plug-Ins

Do not put them in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Plug-Ins\Filters as that is the folder reserved for Photoshop's built-in filters (Blur, Lens Flare, Lighting Effects etc.)

Restart PS and they should then appear in the Filters menu.

OK - have you tried trashing the Photoshop Preferences file? This often fixes all sorts of weird behaviour in PS. Here's some info:

Photoshop Tips: Trashing the Preferences File | CreativePro.com

I doubt very much that it's a bug in the program if you are using a legitimate version of CS3 (i.e. not a pirated/cracked copy), otherwise this behaviour would have been noted by many other users (and hopefully fixed by Adobe by now). What are the plugins that are giving you the problem?

The plug-ins are from Alpha Works . I'll try resetting the preferences and see if that fixes it . It is a licenced version that I'm using . Thanks !!

Hmm...well, I don't know what else to suggest. If you mean the plugin available from here:
Cybia - Plug-In Filters - AlphaWorks
I downloaded and installed it in my C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Plug-Ins folder. After restarting Photoshop, the filter was available under Filters > Cybia > AlphaWorks. Seems to work fine, too.

Whew!! I'm really glad that worked for ya, cos as I said above I was totally out of other ideas!
Incidentally, thanks for pointing me in the direction of that AlphaWorks plugin - that might be useful sometime.
