Photo shop CS4 brush helppp????

hi there all,
I'm so new to all this stuff never even been registered to use a forum thingo such as this but see there is a lot of helpful ppl about these things so....
hopefully i can return the favour one day!
I was wondering if anyone could help me out, I have downloaded a heap of great looking brushes and put them into ps cs4 they are there and work somewhat but not how they are meant to,
if it makes any sense they are flat, for example a blood splatter brush that is meant to have a reflective shine on it when used only gives me a solide shape filled with solid color? is this because its not compatiable with cs4 or because i have done something worng? i have had and used simular brushes that worked great on cs3 bt this time i've had no luck? sad because they look so great and are exactly what i need..

You might click on the brush properties and check to see if it has duel brush or duel coler presets

sorry? while in photo shop or shall i go into the prresets through program files?

i have for example the bubbles brush but only the hard outline appears when used not the shading etc? i am soo new to all this and apprecate anyone tkaing the time to help me out , i know its an annoying topic
