filters?

i was looking at the fire animation tutorial on this site. And i see it says do filter/render/clouds then filter/render/fibers. I don't have fibers in my filters! Is it an extra filter or did he type it up wrong or something?

Ahhhh, fibers is a new filter for Photoshop CS - I really should add that to the tutorial. Thanks for letting me know!

PS. Anyone else reading this forum know of a 3rd party or freeware alternative for the fibers filter for earlier version of PS?

A preliminary search revealed nothing comparable i'm afraid. There are similar fiber filters in KPT and Alien Skin, but none of them are identical i'm afraid. That said, i'm sure an applied fibrous texture would be ok - you are blurring and stretching the image anyway, and a texture would yield unique results.

Chris Cox from Adobe wrote a free filter called "hairy noise" that does basically the same thing many years back, try doing a search for it and see if you can find the set of filters. They basically updated that filter for use in 7.0 since he works for them now. The problem is they were designed for Mac and for Photoshop 3.0, so it's VERY hard to get them to work if at all in any version past 5.5 or so.

I have the filters if you two would like to get a hold of them and try it out. PM me your email address and I'll see what I can do.
