Help With Brushes Please!

Im sorry if there is already a post for this, i might have missed it. I have been using photoshop CS3 for a few months and have gotten pretty good at it. My question is, when you using brushes as "stamps" can i use standard colors for them or am i forced to use textures? any advise would help thanks.

I'm not sure I understand your question. Do you mean the Pattern Stamp tool? The ordinary Brush tool paints with whatever colour is currently set as your foreground.

Not sure if this helps but if use the brush with the normal settings you get the image of the pattern you have selected.
If you select the impressionist box to the right of the pattern style window you get a selection of the colours in that pattern.
