How to import a GIF file in photoshop

sorry for being a noob at this

i am trying to merge (import) a gif image (non animated) in a photoshop file but it is not doing that. i can open a GIF file in photoshop but that file is not being dragged in another photoshop file...
any help on it will be greatly appriciated!

GIFs have an Image Mode of Indexed Color (max 256 colours). My guess is that your Photoshop document is RGB (usually the default for new PSDs). You need to change your GIF to RGB (to match the Image Mode of your target PSD) as follows:
  1. Ensure your GIF is the active image
  2. Select Image > Mode
  3. Indexed Color will currently be checked. Click RGB Color to change Image Mode.
