Distress Look

I am trying to use our logo on a brick wall. and i want to distress the logo to look like it was painted on. with worn edges.
the problem i have is the edges of the logo, i have tried different brushes to work on it but cannot do it. i found a distressed brush that i can use on the entire logo with 1 stamp and it looks good but the edges look weird now. does anyone have any advice

the best way to start is to show what you mean.
upload something we can see and that way we can help better.

Maybe you need to look at this tutorial and vary it a bit to your purposes?

Here's one way to get the "painted-on" look:
  1. Open your wall image
  2. Add your text or logo on another layer
  3. Double-click the text/logo layer in the Layers palette to open the Layer Style dialog at the Blending Options section
  4. In the Blend If section, Alt+click the white stops at the right end of the Underlying Layer slider. This will separate the two stops. Drag the left stop over to the left. Your Blend If section should now look something like the first attachment. Obviously your settings will vary according to your image.
Parts of the underlying texture should start to show through your text/logo. You could also try playing around with the Blending Mode and/or the Opacity of the text/logo layer.

My finished (very quick and dirty) image is the second attachment.
