Creating a seamless pattern; Not working

I was attempting to recreate an effect I saw, but I could not get it to work.

I have a stripe that I downloaded from a Tutorial.

When I use a pattern overlay or pattern fill the stripe becomes one continuous pattern, seamless, and expands to the size of the object I am applying it to.

I tried to create the stripe from scratch and do the same, but instead of it being seamless it was a repeating pattern in squares, where the stripes did not line up.

I followed the directions I read on the net about using the offset filter but due to the fact that the stripe is alternating between yellow and black (think hazard tape) this does not work.

I cannot figure out the difference between the version i downloaded and I made. I followed the same steps, but I cannot get it to be seamless.

What do I need to do?

you have to make a square box that can be copyd and pasted al around itself, and than stays seamless...

to do such a thing with stripes its handy to make a big box and use only the centre piece...that way youre sure its seamless....

So just make a square of 15 by 15 pixels and make the stripes in there. Than use the guides (view>guide) to mark the inner 5 pixels.
Than select those 5 pixels and make them into a pattern.

U can also use different sizes as long as you make sure that if divided by 3 than a reall number comes out....

The only issue is that the stripes do not exactly align, so it will be slightly off. If i could post the images I could show you th eoriginal file that worked and the file I made. I am trying to see what the difference between the two are.

PhotoshopForums.com - Making a seamless pattern from a Stripe
That will show this same question with the images posted on another forum.

If you posted a link to the original tutorial, it might help.

you could also make like 5 horizontal stripes, and than rotate them.....

just in a square box and make sure that the middle stripe is exactly in the middle that's all! O, and the stripes must al be the same width. And the stripes at both the sides must be half that width...

so you must figure out how big you pattern file should be, and than do the math

I set up the stripes as the base file (see the link to above for the image examples). It is when I apply it as a pattern that it stitches.

Ah that was the issue, the location of the stripes had an affect on the seams. Wonderful, Thanks this has been bothering me for days.
