Hi all, new to the forums... I just had to post here because there is a way to do what you are asking, but it isn't the easiest thing in the world to do. I'll try to explain it, and if you can't follow, then I can create a .psd for you.
- Create the circle for the smily using the vector shape tool.
- Add a raster mask to that new layer by hitting the "Add Layer Mask" button at the bottom of the layers palette.
- On that mask, paint the section black that you DON'T want to show through... This would be the area under the tongue. (sp?)
- Apply the Layer Style you want to use
- Go into the layer styles dialog box, and on the initial screen, there is an option for "Layer Mask Hides Effects". Check that box
- Now, duplicate that layer, and invert the mask on that new layer.
You should be good to go then!
