Realistic Flame Background

Hi,

I've seen some incredible flame tutorials where text is involved, but I desperatley need a tutorial, pattern, action, whatever...to create a realistic flame background.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks,
Steve

Yeah, I've seen that tut as well, but it still doesn't allow me to create a full background of realistic flames.

You could create a fire background by applying the technique from that tutorial, but if you want a one-click solution try the Fire filter in the Eye Candy 5: Nature plugin from Alien Skin: Eye Candy 5: Nature

Here is an example of this filter, applied to a plain black layer - it took about 10 seconds of tweaking the parameters to get it to look ok.

Thanks. I'll give that one a try. I'm trying to make a design for a goalie helmet for my son.

The Fire that tamlin posted is cool, but typically I prefer a more distant view. From my perspective, the fire effect looks too much like a close up of a lighter. I have more use for something that resembles flames like one would see in a campfire or better yet, an inferno. (No, I'm not a pyromaniac I'm just a car / truck enthusiast who likes the recent trend in true fire paint jobs.). To get what I'm after, I've resorted to using the smoke effect from Eye Candy with appropriate color settings and just applying it in multiple layers to add depth. The blending modes between layers is a trial and error sort of thing that I haven't quite perfected yet.

This example started off with a black background and five separate layers that were clear except for a 1 pixel thick black line across the bottom. On each layer, I simply applied the color-modified smoke filter. The column length, side taper, eddy size, etc. are all the same from one layer to the next. The only difference is the random seed in the bottom of the filter control window.

that is a really nice set of flames. I have tried my hand on doing flames as well, but I forgot to get them off my old computer before it got trashed. I used the same idea of using the eye candy filter. It really is the same as idea when i airbrush them. You just start out layering your candies till you get the look you want. Its almost as time consuming.
