Help..option got turned off..

Ok so I had an option on that allowed me to drag an image around but it just grabbed a outline and left the image in the same spot until I let go of the mouse button. I loved this option because I could easily match images up. Some how it got turned off and I can't figure out how to turn it back on?
Adobe PS2, PC

I'm with Stormy on this one - I've had a good poke around in my Photoshop and I can't see what you're referring to. Are you talking about an option of the Move tool?

I haven't seen the "outline only mode" in photoshop, I know illustrator uses the "bounding box" or "outline mode" when you have the view optimizations on, or the manual "outline mode" under the VIEW menu.

However, Photoshop CS2 does have a display optimization feature, that basically displays half the resolution of your layer when you are dragging it, this allows you to handle more objects on screen and speeds up the editing process of larger photoshop files.

to do this you do the following:

1. choose Edit > Preferences > Display & Cursors.
2. Select Use Pixel Doubling, and click OK.

okay so on further investigation the "outline mode" might be a feature in older versions of photoshop, according to this site, it says version 3 & 4, I'm assuming photoshop 3 & 4.

Quote:
Moving images (Versions: 3 & 4 for Macintosh & Windows)

When you select and move an image, Photoshop displays the moving selection in two ways. The first way is to display the image as you move the
selection. The second method displays only an outline of the selection.
Both displays have their advantages, but to make optimal use of either, you should know how Photoshop decides which display to show. To display the
contents of an image as you move a selection, click the selection using the Move tool and wait a moment. Then, Photoshop displays the selection and its contents as you drag the selection to a new position. To display only the outline of a selection as you move it, click the selection and immediately
move it. Photoshop displays an outline of the selection.
source of info

it seems like it says that photoshop will do this automatically for you, but I've tested it on my version and it doesn't do it for me.

best of luck!
