I have a few free fonts that I made available at Jacorre Design Studio. I also have a quick and easy way of installing fonts available as a tutorial called Send To Fonts.

I would like to add on bit of advice. (albiet obvious to many)
now that you have spent days/years scouring the net and finally developed the perfect font collection for your use, Don't forget to back up the folder where you installed them onto a cd/dvd
I would be DEVESTATED if I ever lost all mine.

I've gone through losing my set about 4 or 5 times now. It took a while, but I finally learned that lesson!

  1. Download/unzip TTF/FON/PFM/OTF file(s) to a temporary folder (let's say C:\TempFonts).
  2. Open Control Panel and open the Fonts applet.
  3. Select File > Install New Font...
  4. In the dialog box, navigate to C:\TempFonts
  5. Ensure that Copy fonts to Fonts folder is checked
  6. Click Select All
  7. Click OK

You can now empty or remove the temporary folder. You new fonts will be available to your applications next time you run them.

If you're on a Mac, I haven't a clue.

Correct me if I wrong please. A recovering font addict myself, the windows font folder can only hold a certain number of fonts before it starts to have some major errors. Don't forget to back up your fonts. Get some software like "MyFonts" or something that helps monitor your font folder and lets you know when it's full. Just a suggestion.

Depends which version of Windows you're running. In Win95 and Win98 there was an approximate limit of 1000 fonts (the exact number was determined by the length of the TrueType names and the filenames). Since Win98, however, (i.e. NT, 2000, XP, and Vista) there is no limit to the number of fonts that can be installed. The only downside is increased boot-time due to the requirement to read the information for all those fonts while the system is starting up.

Thanks for the font links. I'm the odd man out here; I use a Mac. Haven't had it very long and at this point, I don't have a clue how to save them. If there are any Mac user's out there -- please let me know.

I too love fonts and have many. Its just that it takes sooooooo looooong time every time I need some nice font. The one who can chose has a real problem.
