Smile Photoshop Actions

If you have not found this yet, an excellent place for Photoshop Actions:
http://www.atncentral.com/download.htm

It gives a description of the action and an image to view.

Probably a stupid question, but how do you get PS actions to work?

Send a message via MSN to notjustgraphics
While you have your image open and the layer to which you want to apply the effect of the action selected, you can open your Actions Pallet (Window:Actions or ALT-F9)

Actions that you have loaded will appear in folders in the new pallette, but you can load your new actions using the black arrow... (Actions should be stored in your Program directory under Presets/Photoshop Actions/....

Most actions will be in folders in the actions pallette and clicking on the folder will reveal the action (or actions) inside that folder.

Selecting the actiony you wish to apply and clicking the PLAY button (or right arrow) at the bottom of the Actions Pallette will apply the action to your layer.

Actions are wonderful things to simplify complex routines. Some are interactive though and require you to adjust dialog settings as they run.

I hope this is clear enough for you to follow...

If not, let me know... but I'm sure others will have tips for you as well.

Regards,

Mike.

If you use the Search function at the top of the page, you'll find this question has been answered many times before. Have a look at these (just a selection):

action

I would like to remind anyone new to actions, never use them on your original file. Always on a copy of your file.

I especially like actions that give you some options or control of the action. I like ones that give you the option to paint in a layer mask.

It would be interesting to keep this thread alive by letting us know what action you use, and why you like it. We might all learn something.
Thanks,
Marj

I downloaded a bunch of these some time ago. The one I use more than any other is Danny's 3x3 Action, which adds a 3x3 grid of guides to your image to aid composition according to the rule of thirds. So simple, and yet so useful.

One that I really like is Watercolor, by Erick Nguyen, this action sets up the layers and layer masks, so them you select your brush and start painting.
