Angry Text layer in CS2

I've never had this problem before and I can't quite work out how or why it's happening. Must be something I've done but I have no idea what.

I'm trying to create a new text layer, but for some reason every time I try to create the layer, it just goes back to edit a different text layer instead of creating a new one. I have no idea what I've done differently but honestly ...

Anyone got any ideas?

I have CS, not CS2, so this may not apply to you. If I have an existing text layer selected and try to create a new text layer, it does what you said... goes to edit the layer I had selected. I believe you have to have the background or a non-text layer selected to make a new text layer.

Hope this helps,
Stephanie

I would agree with Stephanie. Just click the New Layer icon and make sure the new layer is active before you start entering text.

Sometimes it helps to shut off (click the eye) the other text layers.

I've, also, found that, when setting the cursor to start adding new text, if it's too close to existing text, that layer is selected and the new text is added to it.
Slide over to a clear area in the image and click to set your cursor. When you're done typing, you can move this new text layer into position.

Im not quite sure, but if you draw shapes then you got three options(outline, new layer...) in the left of the bar. I thought that with text you have the same thing. Maybe you should take a look at it, I don't no if its right...but worth the looking I guess.

That's what I was doing and it was still happening - hence the confusion. No matter what layer I was on or whereabouts I tried to add it (thinking I could at least get it added in and edit it later), it just kept switching back to the other text layer.

Switching all the other layers off, adding the text layer and then switching them on again seemed to work ok though, thanks.

Sometimes if weird things like this happen, the quickest, easiest and most effective course of action is to reset your preferences in Photoshop. Here's a link that explains how to do it, if you're unsure: creativepro.com - Photoshop Tips: Trashing the Preferences File
