Making picture look better?

I got a picture of my G/F little girl I wanted to make it look more clear and solid right now it looks snowy like the way old TVs would do. Any ideas how to make it better?

Can you post a copy of the picture?

It would be a lot simpler to give you advice if we can see the image.

Mike.

I agree, with notjustgraphics. But on most pictures you can use techniques like this. (and maybe this. Call me a perv, if you want )

Posting the photo is the best way to get accurate info from everyone. Each photo is different as to what it needs to improve it.

You need to remove the noise and sharpen it up. What version of Photoshop do you have?
(The reason I ask is that CS2 has a noise reduction filter and a Smart Sharpen filter, both of which might be useful for this image)

Snubs, there is a lot of grain here, it would need an artistic skill to remedy this one. I have tried with PS7 got rid of the grainy effect but couldn't sharpen the image. It is not really a good photo to work from. But, I am sure there are wizards out there that see this as a piece of cake to resolve.
here is my effort...

Here is some software that you might find useful to assist is removing grain.

Imagenomic - Imagination at Shutter Speed

Hope it helps,

Here's my attempt. I used the Reduce Noise filter to...er...reduce the noise, then made a selection of just the edges and applied the Unsharp Mask filter. It's far from perfect because the original image is not of the highest resolution, but it's not too bad.

Here's my crack at it...

I duplicated the background layer and applied a Gausian Blur (Radius - 20.0) to the new layer. I then changed the blend of the new layer to Overlay with an Opacity of about 45%

Did a good job of smoothing out the noise, but I'm not sure you'll be able to get rid of the "noise" and retain or improve the sharpness.

The image looks like's its been photoshop'd already... maybe to reduce the size or remove red-eye.

The original image might have more data to work with if you could post it.

Mike.

Mike: that's a good technique for removing noise - seems to work really well. I think we all had problems with the sharpening, though. There's just not enough to work with, really.

346X346. That's a problem nowadays with camera phones. A lot of people think you can make a nice picture of it at billboard size. Garbage in, garbage out.
