Can you post an example of the pic? It's difficult to advise without seeing the extent of the blurriness. It could be that all it needs is the application of the Unsharp Mask filter (or the Smart Sharpen filter if you've got CS2), otherwise it may require a more in-depth approach such as sharpening with masks or manual sharpening.

If that's the original size and resolution of your image, then I don't think there's enough for the sharpening filters to work on. If you have access to a higher-res version, I would start by increasing the contrast of the face area to accentuate the edges. Photoshop's sharpening tools work by increasing the contrast along edges where different tonal areas meet, which creates the illusion of a sharper image. If there is insufficient contrast in the original, the sharpening tools won't have anything to work with.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with Tamlin... the image is under exposed so no amount of sharpening is going to bring out the detail in the foreground.

I have had some luck with Paint Shop Pro's (now a Corel product) Motion Blur filter... it can intelligently improve pictures that have been blurred by a camera moving in one direction.. (Like from a moving car) but not from a shaky camera where the camera motion is in multiple directions.

If you want to try the program, there's a full function free trial, available here: http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satelli...=1156169693940

Perhaps someone could suggest a way of duplicating this function in photoshop? It's the only filter that's missing, but I'm sure the same result is achievable.

Mike.

Mike:
Motion Blur correction is a feature of the Smart Sharpen filter, which was new to CS2. Another good reason to upgrade, if you haven't done so already.

Thanks Tamlin...

I do have CS2 and use the blur tools frequently and somehow never registered that there was a Motion Blur Filter.

Makes me wonder what other gems are hidden in there!

I don't know if you're aware of this or not (forgive me if you already know about it), but if you open the Keyboard Shortcuts and Menus dialog (select Edit > Menus...) you can select a custom menu set called What's New - CS2.
Once this menu set is loaded, the new CS2 features in each pulldown menu are highlighted, so you can see the new options at a glance (see attached screenshot).

Tamlin...

Thanks... i was not aware of that feature... and will use it as soon as I get back to the office...

I skipped CS and went straight into CS2, but this will help a lot!

Thanks!

Mike.
