How often do you use layer masks?

I just learned how to use them and I was wondering how often everyone here uses them.

I use them quite often. Not as much as other Photoshop abilities, but they are dead useful for several effects. The cracked glass and underlying metallic circuitry in Biorust v3, for example, make extensive use of layer masks...

i never use them, i use seperate masking programs to make my masks, since it makes life alot easier.

nope i never use masks and i'm not sure if i fully understand what masks are either.
