I'd like to see a tutorial like this too - preferably with lightning effects that look NOTHING like plasma.

i have no time to write a proper tut but you can get good looking lightning by creating a black to white linear gradient then applying the render>difference clouds, then hit ctrl + l and pulling the white level marker right over to the left then adjust the grey one a bit until the black is in a lightnight type form. Next invert the colours and add a hue and saturation adjustment layer to turn the lightning the colour you want. from here you can copy the lightning around a bit to get a better result. if copying set the layer mode to lighten.

heres what i got (dunno if its plasma or not :P) :

hope this helps

oh. I made a mistake. But I think it's difficult to find a tut about how to make lightning that not plasma like.

I found this tut, and wish it help.

its EZ .

make a WHITE BALCK Cloud filter , then make Diifrent Clouds . few Times the more you do it the more the Lighting will split ,

then go to adujments and Curve and play with it till you get black lines of the Lighting then Invert the Picture Cntl+I , then Cntl+B and play with the colors .

there are more than one way this is one .
