Need help making concentric arcs in Photoshop

I'm attempting to make three concentric arcs, each one on top of the other at equal distances from each other. My ultimate goal is to make a logo with the letter j, with the three arcs emanating from the dot of the j (to represent sound waves). I started off making an arc with the pen tool, then scaled it larger and copied it. The problem is that each time I scale and copy the arc, the new, larger arc changes shape slightly (not just size) and doesn't match the smaller arc below it (the curve is a bit different). Any help with this would be really appreciated!

(I tried making the arcs in Illustrator but couldn't figure it out, so I've also posted a thread in the Illustrator forum)

I don't know how you'd do it in Illustrator (probably a lot easier than in Photoshop), but I've written you a quick tutorial on one method: Concentric Arcs Tutorial

There are probably lots of quicker and easier ways, but this one does the job.

Tamlin to the rescue! I appreciate your taking the time to write an arcs tutorial, it worked beautifully. In the final version I wanted the arcs vectored with no background, so I went back into Illustrator and was able to get what I wanted within 10 minutes. I’d been trying to get the arcs around the dot of a “j”, and since the dot wasn’t a perfects circle I couldn’t use the circle method. Finally decided to outline the font, delete the imperfect dot and make a new one with the ellipse tool. From there, using the ideas you provided in your tutorial, I made three new circles, stroked them, and then cut them with the scissors tool to obtain arcs. Fairly simple, but I was stumped until I tried out your Photoshop method. Many thanks.

Unfortunately I don't know anything about Illustrator, but I'm glad I was able to help in a small way.
