If you take your own photos, there is no issue about who the photo belongs too.
Seems safer and smarter to me.
But then others see it differently I guess.

It has always made more sense to me to either take the snap myself and get the appropriate release or purchase what I want. Much fewer probs than using from website. Inexpensive true royalty-free items are available as well as very high end snaps. I purchased a set and split cost with partner, got over 700+ for just under $30US. One of the really important things as a photographer I have learned to do is to always carry model releases in my back pocket, backpack, camera bag, whatever. When you find a great shot you can get the release at the same time.

I agree with tamlin mike & Bedlam... take your own photos... Then it is your art.
From start to finish. Unless you have a friend that shares with you.
On the weekend's in the summer I go out & take my own pix.
It gives me a since of pride knowing I did it all myself.

Sharing images and getting free images.
There are several sites where people make their own photos available. Many of them can be used without restriction. Some people want to know the end use.

Someone already mentioned Stock.Xchng stock.xchng - the leading free stock photography site which is a good site.
