Font?

I have tons of fonts saved to a CD..For me to use them, do I have to upload them in PhotoShop or is there a way to use them from the disc?

If you move the fonts to your Fonts folder in Windows, they will be available for use in any program.

But too many fonts will slow down your computer.

That's what I was afraid of. So I'll just load the ones that I need when I need to use them and then delete...so I can save space....thanks

That's the only way I'm aware of. I'm not sure if fonts management software helps with this though.

^ it does. I use Font Fitting Room deluxe - although there are some freeware ones that work just as well. They usually have one-click install/uninstall and you can dictate where you want the deactivated ones to go, or even save them to or load off of a cd/dvd. I have other 1000 fonts on my laptop alone, font managment software saves my hard drive.

Font Management

Thanks for the info, classique. I had never heard of Font Fitting Room Deluxe until now, but I've found the site and downloaded the demo to try. Wow. It has a lot of great features and an affordable price. Here's the address, if anyone is interested:
Font Fitting Room: A font preview tool with advanced features.

I have been using a small and easy to use freeware program called FontsOnCD.
FontsOnCD - The best TrueType font browsing utility for creating CD font collections.
(It is, like Font Fitting Room Deluxe, only available for Windows, no MAC.)
What's great about this one is that you can copy it onto any disk (it's only 11.5k) and use it from there. So put it on each of your font CD's and it operates like a mini catalog of the fonts on the CD. Put in the CD, click on the program, tell it what text to display, click OK, and it shows that text in every font on that disk. You can choose size, bold, italic, underlined, or outline. You can change the text, if you like, and the screen updates to show your text with the new choices.

It is, admittedly, not nearly as sophisticated as Font Fitting Room Deluxe, but it's free, and it makes it easy to view the fonts you have, without installing them.

And, it also works on the hard drive.....you can use it to view text in any fonts you have on that disk too, even in the Windows fonts folder----the installed fonts.

I think I am going to be using both. Thanks again, for a great idea.

Sounds like another program could help you.
THE FONT THING
Sue Fisher: The Font Thing
It ir free and has the preview function. You can group files into collections and can browse from a location. I am unsure if you can use a CD but I keep all my fonts on a seperate drive.
You can install and uninstall fonts from this program so if tyou find one you can install it right there.
Keep in mind if you are using pre-CS Photoshop you will have to restart to see newly installed fonts.

I use the ONE AND ONLY ,.,.,. Font Viewer. It can do something which I didn't discover in any other program. What is the Mistery?!?
Well this is the only program (which I know) that lets you temporarily install font on your machine and after closing this program that font would be automaticaly deinstalled from your machine. So I have only fonts that camed with Windows and I don't loose any speed of system. Try it and you love it. Very much!
And yes, it can install fonts from CD

I literally have 10,000 fonts on my computer, not installed to my font folder. I use Font Viewer for the same reason zlatiborac does. Great program!
