Talking My New Layout (Need Feedback)

Hey guys, I have just completed the layout for my online portfolio, and I need some feedback. Feel free to give constructive criticism. I was going for a simple design that shows my skills. Thanks in advance!

[EDIT] Hey! Why did it shorten my link? Oh well, it still works.

... That looks to similiar to the old version of BioRUST. It looks almost like you ripped the design. Sorry. I recommend starting a new, original design.

Really? The only thing that seems similar is the background metal part. The rest of the stuff seems pretty original to me. I wouldn't call using similar background gradients ripping. I truly had no intention of copying the design. I guess I need Mog's opinion.

Well, some of the icons resemble the ones used for the current version of BioRUST. However, the design looks like it's ripped. It may not have been your intention but if other people have seen BioRUST they might suspect the same thing. That's something you don't want.

I used a .txt so that geocities wouldn't make you copy and paste.

[Edit] Ok, I think I've solved our problem. Tell me how this suits you.

I dont see anything wrong with the top and bottom of the design myself, but the little borders on the left and right encapsulating the whole design DO look a bit like Biorust v2 i'm afraid. They say imitation is the greatest form of flattery, but to avoid being mauled by rabid people screaming ripper i'd seriously consider altering the left and right columns a little. How about adding a regular wave pattern or making it look like one of those new thermaltake PC cases? They are plenty funky enough, and very distinct from the Lian-Li I based my previous design on...

Hmmm...I'm not sure what you mean by "wave pattern," but I implimented some carbon fiber. Tell me what you think.

There's no gradient on the carbon fiber which give it a flat look. It no longer has the 3D-ish look from the gradients.

So do you think the layout is good enough to use now, or is it still too similar to BioRust v2? I think it has everything it needs and I would like to start slicing it up.

It still resembles v2 of BioRUST. If I were you, I'd honestly scrap the design and start anew. Something original. However, that's my own opinion. This is entirely up to you.

Wow, speaking of ripping check this site out. Compare the banner to the BioRust forum banner. Weird eh?

I dont think it looks too much like biorust v2 now. You really need to change that dark green a bit though - its a tad too shocking. Oh, and create a nice background (I was always enchanted by the idea of a swirly BG myself). As for the Dangeruss banner, I used his header as inspiration - he already knows about it. Apart from the composition (i.e. it uses bits of the portfolio on the left), my banner is still very different.
