To be honest, I've never found a use for 3rd party plugins - Photoshop includes all the tools you really need, and anything else can be created with a bit of time, effort, or a downloadable stock layerstyle.

bah. I've never found a useful plugin for photoshop either. If you're looking to spruce up your work with some downloadable stuff, like m0g said, layer styles can be cool, as well as BRUSHES.

photoshop plugins are a huge waste of time. The only one i would seriously recommend would be one called, mask pro. It is a very easy tool to make complex maskings of images.

Stay away from filters the only things slightly recommended are kais power tools series.

I use the default plug-ins. Anything else you can basically create yourself using a combination of things in Photoshop.

I have found KnockOut2 to be an excellent plugin. In my opinion, its far superior to PS's extract function. But, then again, I am a noob and need all the help I can get.

Sinedots is well worth anyone's time. Click here and go to "Photoshop" to download. It's my favorite one to play around with.

There are other plugins worth taking a look at too, but this ones free!
