Obtain a perfect pill shape

Me again!
I'm messing with that newbie pill button thing =)
I'm having troubles obtaining a perfect pill shape...
What I do now is perform a rectangular selection and then do the smooth selection for a number of pixels good for my selection...
But I get rough corners...
Any suggestion?

Try using the circular select tool, and stretching it to give a rectangle with perfectly round edges.

Or, if you mean that you've got jagged edges, use the antialias feature. Or for overkill, look at this.

Hope that helps.

here's my button...

I have to use it in a small visual basic application...
I have some SERIOUS problems with shadows because visual basic uses only gif files and the shadow is al jagged in gif =(
any suggestion on how to handle this?
if only visual basic could use png files
I would like this to be the "up" state and then when I click I'd like to prepare a "down" one...
What kind of trick can I use to get a good effect?
I tried messing with the bevel pixels but I don't get the "push" feel...

It looks very cool, im sure you could find a plugin for you visual basic app that supports .jpg or even .tiff.

have a look around. For the text i would suggest setting the text layer to soft light to give it the feel that it has been embedded in the aqua button.

For nice smooth shapes, try following the Anti-aliasing tutorial of mine over at http://biorust.com/index.php?page=tu...detail&tutid=1 - if that doesn't round out your jaggies, nothing will!

Thank you all again, good suggestions indeed =)

the problem I have with visual basic is trasparencies... So I can't use jpg or tiff... just gif, and I get ALWAYS 1 pixel white around my buttons...
=( (and I'm forced not to use shadows...)

ps

I tried to set the text layer to "soft light" but it changes the color of my text... Is it normal?

aaaaaand...

I would like to use as the "up" state the button I posted and then when I click I'd like to prepare a "down" state...
What kind of trick can I use to get a good effect (like if I was really "pushing" the button)?
I tried messing with the bevel pixels but I don't get the "push" feel...

thx =)

Soft light shouldn't change the colour of the text leyer, just how it looks over the layer(s) below it.

With regards to the down state, if the button is inset, give it a slight inner shadow using a dark grey, on multiply or darken, and fiddle around with the settings until you get an effect you like. You could also use colour overlay with a darker version of the colour of the button, and play about with the opacity.

Just experiment!

It depends what you're using the soft light over. Sometimes it may/may not change the color of certain parts of the layer.

Also, when using layer styles don't try to over do it - Dark Shadow, Bevel, etc.

mmmh I tried messing but I didn't get any satisfying results...
The button is attached to my first post of the thread...
Would you take a look to it? =)

Again, using soft light my text colour changes from white to cyan...
=(
