Newbie need help to make 1px lines with line tool

I try to get clean 1 pixel thick lines with the line tool but all I get is
fat lines which differ from black to grey.
Its like making a a single pixel dot with the brush tool instead of the pencil tool.
Hope you understand my problem and please help me.

Ok, I may not understand, but here goes. Check at top of PS program window, make certain the weight choice selected is 1 pixel. Do you have a Style selected, there should be none selected. Do you have color selected you want?

If you need a single line that extends to both ends of the document, why don't you use the single row marquee tool and edit > fill the selection with the color of your choice?

Ill show what I mean:

The above line is what I want and the bottom line is what I get.
Ive checked the settings and I have 1px and no style selected.
Colours are default black.

Single row marquee tool will work fine but its more like doing two
operations instead of the single one you get if you use the line tool
only.

A few things spring to mind:

1. Have you got Anti-alias checked in the toolbar? If so, uncheck it.

2. Have you got Opacity set to 100%?

3. Have you got Blend Mode set to Normal?

Thx for all the answers
I didnt find the antialias setting anywhere so thats why it didnt work.
My line tool options was set to "shape layers" all I had to do was to
switch to "fill pixels" instead and there it was
Sounds simple but its not that easy to find if you are a newbie.

I don't want to state the obvious, but you do realise you've got your line weight set to 1 inch in the above screenshot - not 1 pixel - don't you? Or am I missing the point?

Why dont you just fill in the image with color and do canvas size...put 1 px for height and whatever size you want for the width?

Nothing beats the Pencil tool for drawing the crispest, sharpest lines possible. Set weight to 1 px, opacity to 100%, and hold down the [Shift] key while drawing.

Um.

I have a similar question. Is there anyway to make a one pixel, black line with the brush tool? Like the kind of line you get with the pencil tool in MS Paint?

use the line tool to make horizontal and vertical solid lines... when you use it be sure that your image size is not higher than 100 percent( use your navigator)...press shift key while drawing your line...that's all...

I just use the pencil tool when I want a 1 pixel line. I'm sure the other ways mentioned work as well.
