Please Help: I Want A Web 2.0 Looking Background For My Blog

Hello,

I want to create the gradient backgroung effect for my blog, The Military Entrepreneur, but I don't know how to do this. I know how to use Photoshop fine. I just don't know what size to make the image or how make it.

A few examples are:

voo2do
Ta-da List

Thank you.

What you need is a gradient and a background specified by CSS. Take a look here: http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_background.asp

All you need to do is position the gradient in the top left and allow it to repeat along the X but not Y axis. Then change the background color to the color shown at the bottom of the gradient and you are sorted!

That sounds pretty technical for me. I'll take a look at the W3 site and hope I don't get lost. Thank you for the link.

What I would really like to learn how to do is create the new "digital camauflage pattern" as a background. Know of anyone who would be willing to do that?

Hmmm.... well, give me a visual example of what you mean by 'digital camouflage pattern', and i'll see if I have anything handy in my library.

There use to be a site tha the Marine Corps had online with the official pattern used on the Marine Corps utilities. Here a few links with images of the pattern:

Google Image Results

Utility Top

Large Closeup

What WikiPedia Says

Basically, the effect I want to have is a gradient fade, but the base have a camo pattern... it would be great if I could somehow get the digital pattern, since we're all migrating to those patterns.

Appreciate your time.

Well, if you want camouflage, this tutorial will suit ya just fine: http://www.biorust.com/tutorials/detail/42/en/

Making a 'two layer' background with the camouflage behind another fading layer *IS* possible, but quite complex... especially if you don't know HTML/CSS. I could describe the process, but it could confuse you pretty heavily!

Well, I actually went through that tutorial. Came out looking just like the example.

But the look I am looking for uses pixels.

You're right... lol. I may get confused.

Sorry if I got off the initial question I asked and that is... how do I get that gradient look in the background of my blog?

Well, learn how to use CSS first. This tutorial may help you: http://graphicdesign.about.com/libra...htm#background

Then make your CSS background a simple image with a vertical gradient!

Ok, I'll go over the link you provided. Hey thanks for being so helpful.

Nice to know there's people out there like you.

Much appreciated.

I understood what you said in #2 about

But what if I am trying to apply a background that has diagonal gradient? Say it fades from yellow to orange, starts as yellow in top left and ends as orange in bottom right. How do I apply that without ending up with some hideous tiling effect that could appear depending on the size on the background image and the size of the viewer's browser window?
