I really don't know for sure but I don't think photoshop is the thing to use to restore old photos. I think would best be left to the professionals at a photography studio. I think if I had one like that thats what I would do. Photoshop filters could make it brighter etc. But don't think it can do much else. well honestly Im sure others have better opinions on this. Im fairly new to photoshop. But my opinion is go to a professional photography studio to have it restore.

Actually, this is what Photoshop was made for - working with photos to correct things like color balance and contrast (two problems I see with this photo). Over the years, Adobe has added many neat special effects options with the filters, masks, blending modes, etc.. Some of those new features will help here. The Healing and Clone tools can be used to get rid of all of those water spots and scratches. Combinations of blending modes and certain filters can help to sharpen and clarify the image.

Here's a tut on getting rid of spots - http://www.picturecorrect.com/photos...storations.htm
Here's another. Go here and click Tutorial - http://www.cell.com.hk/
I hate to say it, but here are all you ever need - http://www.google.com/search?q=photo...=&start=0&sa=N

Photoshop - it's not just for sigs, anymore.

Hi!
I like to make a comment to this first tutorial. It looks like bit old information in it, but now a days never work with background layer. Always duplicate it. Then add a new empty layer when ever you are working with clone or healing brush tools. Check the box in the option bar, which says "Sample all Layers" and start to clone. Working on that way, all your clones will be on the separate layer and you may easily make corrections to it without spoiling the original image. Sometimes it's even impossible redo all history steps you do when working with clone stamp tool or brush tool. Then you will notice how handy that separate layer is.
