is that a before and after? you did a pretty good job if it is. you can always use the um, magic wand tool, magnetic lasso tool or i think its the pen tool. i always use the eraser but that takes years but thats my preference. if theres no tut on this site maybe check out pixel2life.com hope you get it the way you want..

Have you tried Extract? I've used it a cuple of times and it seems to work pretty well, specialy around hair. Nevertheless, I think your work looks very good.

Hair is very difficult to extract, so here's what I do, it's time-consuming and requires some amount of work, but the result is pretty nice. Take the pen tool and select path only (no fill). Then you just start drawing (tracing) around the shape or in this case womans sihouette. It takes some time, but the pen tool gives you very nice non-jagged edges. When tracing the hair, just trace the larger hair groups (don't know what their actually called, but hopefully you understand, don't bother with the small hairs).

After you're finished and have deleted the BG you may notice that the hair looks way too smooth. Just take the 'smudge tool' and set it to a couple pixels wide and strength to something like 80-95% (depending on how long and visible hairs you want). Then just paint (smudge) some hairs on the edges of the smooth-hair. The result may look like the linked image below, if she uses conditioner, it may not have as many split-ends, but thats up to you. Hopefully you get som good results.

The Werewolf She was actually a brunette when i started. I also used the technique I explained on the hair roots on the forehead.

Depending on the time you want to take, and the quality that you require there are many ways to extract an image with fine edges.
In the image below, I created a duplicate layer of the girl above the bubbles background. The top layer of the girl is set to Multiply around 80%, the layer beneath is Normal 100%. With a fuzzy round erase brush (in this case about 30 px) at 100%, I erased the second image (normal layer) around her head and over the floating strands (anything that was just outside the fullness of her hair). With a smaller brush, I erased around her face & hand. This preserves the hair and gives it a bit of the background color similar to what you'd normally see. It takes more selection when taking the model out of a complicated background, but works well on white.

Little_T has just uploaded a tutorial on this exact topic! I'm busy converting it at the moment to the BioRUST layout, but in the meantime you can find it over at http://koti.mbnet.fi/little_t/HairTutorial/hair2.html

this tut is in danish but i think you guys can understand it by looking at the pictures and the highlighted tools (the red ones) i might as well just make an english version

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...1/6bb0763d.jpg

its generally just about brushing the quick mask, covering the figure, away

its important that before you switch to quick mask mode, that you make a random figure in the picture.. thats the only way you get a selection when switching back into normal mode.

Good tutorial by Little_T. Creative idea: forget about masking hair, just draw in new stuff!

Maybe we could extend that idea by only using bald models...

well try this to..
this will give realy impresive results if the object is surounded by light colors
1. duplicate the layer
2. convert it to gray sclay
3. play with levels so that the object becomes darker and surrounding get whiter
4.go to chanels and make any of the chanel as selection.
5. go to original image apply mask(make sure the selection is still loded)
voola

another method
read this

I never thought of trying something like that... Nice suggestion. Anyways, I usually use Extract and usually get good results, though hair cutouts isn't always up to par. It just depends on the pic and the background color. Just be sure that if you use the Extract filter to use the Edge and Cleanup tools. Also remember that your cutout will usually look a little grainy in the Extract preview; once you're finished it usually comes out looking better.
