Photoshop colors don't match the real color *boggle*

Alright,
I have Photoshop 7.0 and I use RBG colors, problem is the colors in photoshop never match what they really look like. For instance, I have a regular old orange color in a picture that turns out DARK orange, almost brown looking. Some colors work fine, (like grays), it's the colors like Red, Blue, and Orange that turn out too dark... any suggestions?

I'm not real sure, but I think the little box with an exclamation above it when you are in the color picker, it only shows up on some colors, just mess around until it shows up, you should see it, if it does, I think it means that the color won't look the same when saved due to like web safe colors or something. There is another box under the one with an exclamation that has a cube above it and I think that shows the actual color you will see in the image. This is just what I think, it could be incorrect.

That must be it, I've never paid attention to that little triangle. I did a little experiment. Found a close to the same orange that was giving me troubles without the triangle there, saved the pic and compared to in photoshop. Identical. Amazing!

Thanks Yuneek,
Bub

If you are designing for print, you should ideally set up a ICC profile for both your monitor and photoshop - that way you'll get a more predictable colour output. Oh, and stick to CMYK - all professional printers use that as opposed to RGB, and certain colours may end up being out of their range (i.e. 'out of gamut'), in which case the printer will pick the closest... and usually not ideal colour...

Hrmm... I never knew about the CMYK for print thing. I make simple things for print so it doesn't really matter much to me. But I'll use it from now on.
