"Movie" Avatars--[Animation related]

Well, I've been following this tutorial for a few times now, and each time I try it, I fail. >.-;;

Even though this has to do with Imageready, I figure that I should post here... so sorry if this is in the wrong place. D:

So, I have a little animation ready. It's saved in .AVI, just like the tutorial says for it to be saved as. However, each time I try to open the .AVI file in my Imageready, it comes up as a blank white box. o_o Just.. blank and white...

Thus, I'm stuck, and I don't know what to do. -sweat- I'm hoping that there's a solution to this, and it's not just my computer that decided to hate on me. ^^;;

Thank you in advance! Sorry if this was unclear.. >.<

Hmmm.... why AVI files for avatars? Surely an animated GIF would be better in this case?

Maybe the .AVI is a certain codec(such as DivX or Xvid) that ImageReady can't open.

I haven't tried using .GIFs, because.. I have no idea how to go about doing that.. -sweat- Well... I do.. but...I'm sure there's an easier way. ^^;;;

@NEOD101: Yeah, probably, because the .AVI files I have require DivX.. ^^;; Thanks! D:

That must be it. Most of my .AVI files are in DivX or Xvid too.

Well... you can't blame me for trying to pimp an alternative method of animated avatar creation:

Cool Animation Tips!

Use those .GIF's! They are a much better way of saving animated Avitars. You can get a smaller file size and have control over many optimization settings in Image Ready! The only reason you would use an .avi file was if it was a movie like animation. with full color video like qualities and most need a program to play .avi files! Why make your viewers spend extra time downloading and viewing an .avi if it could be a .gif? Unless your .avi is totally sweet!!! But still watch your file sizes and use .GIF's for simple animation, ALWAYS!

trouble viewing creations using windows picure and fax viewer

I have finished creating an animation avatar and saved it in GIF format but i failed to preview my creation using windows picture and fax viewer. Does that mean i can only view my creations using photoshop and imageready?

Try opening your .GIF using a browser - if it plays then you have a correctly set-up GIF file. Otherwise, its been damaged somehow...

I find that tutorial to be the long way around this sort of thing. However, I guess if the video is in the wrong file format for Image Ready, this would be an alternate way to go.

From my experience, Image Ready will only open .mov files not avi or mpeg, etc. Here is a tutorial that I found recently when someone asked about moving avatars.

I hope it's helpful!

Cool

Do animated gifs always have to be small? Because I have this small one but the quality of the image really really sucks

Of course not - they can be any size that you like! If you are using them on the internet, however, most hosting sources will set you a filesize limit to be friendly to other users. Just imagine a forum where everyone uses animated avatars of 100kb each and you can imagine the potential problems and amazingly long load times...
