BioRust Tutorial Question

I got a question about one of the tutorials. Well, not really one of the tutorials

In one of the special effect tutorials, there's an image which I think is incredibly cool.

It's http://biorust.com/tutorials/ps-lightswirls/collab.jpg

I was just wondering if anyone (more specifically those who made it) could tell me how to do something like that. I get the twirls part on the left from the actual tutorial page it's on, but I just don't get the rest.

Thanks a lot!

I'm not the creator but I would assume that the other main objects were created with a 3D program and then imported, as well as the light object on the background. Then the seems to be a layer of diagnol scanlines, a blue gradient, and a photoshop clouds overlay on top. Then the addition of a box of text on the left. If you want to learn some 3D, you shold look into learning something like Bryce, Cinema 4D, or 3D Studio Max.

Ahhhh, this is just a relatively simple composite. A spiral is created in a 3D modelling application (i.e. Cinema 4D, Bryce, etc), given a shiny glass material, rendered, and then extracted into photoshop. Then its just a simple case of adding scanlines, bits of text, etc.

That's too bad it's made in Cinema 4D.

Thanks though for the clarification
