Exclamation Replacing color

HELP!!!! Still rather new to PS and I'm really stuck!!! I have a client that sent me the attached photograph. He wants me to change the color of the bottle caps to #006699. When I tried replacing the color using Image-Adjustments-Replace Color, the closest I could get it is #000066. After that, the entire image starts looking fuzzy and blotchy! It's possible that I'm not using the function correctly, but either way - I'm stressed now! Can anyone help me figure out how to properly replace the color so it doesn't look like I tried to use a crayon on my monitor?

Have you tried masking/seperating the caps so that your changes only affect them? (I'd imagine so). Perhaps you could go the long way around and desaturate then add a layer above of the color you need, set to Color. Personally, I've never had Replace Color give good enough results and always just find another way.

Don't know if this will help. I am posting a tutorial link in replacing color. Orion Williams is really good at what he does and maybe it will shed some light in the dark corners. Hope it helps.

Hey, guys- thanks a bunch. I really appreciate the help. However, nothing worked. So....I hand painted it. Took a while, it's not absolutely perfect, and it's not even the exact color match. But I think the client might accept it anyway. I actually think I did a pretty good job, considering how difficult this project was. Take a look at the results.

Nicely done saraluna. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Quick Fix

There is a quick fix option to just change the hue of the caps, only really works because the bottles themselves are pretty much grey

Open the jpeg in PS and double click the image in the layers palette so you can add layer effects

Go to colour overlay - select "Hue" as the blend mode and then put in #006699 which will give you the attached - Its odd that your client has asked you to use #006699 as the colour because that, as a solid colour is far too vivid for the context of the image... This way, you get the apperance as if the caps are #006699 and then take into account the general light / shade of the image

I also adjusted the brightness/contrast of the 2nd image

Hope that helps

James

James, that's really good. It's actually very close to the color we needed. It's still a bit dark, but it propbably would have been good. I'll take your advice and try playing with it again using your method.

He needed that particular color because he already has an existing logo with that color and he wanted it to match. Again, it wasn't perfect but it's really darn close.

BTW, I sent my rendition of the photo to the client, and he loved it - which is great, but now he's sent me another 15 photos to work on! Aaaaarrrrrggggghhhh! Ok, breathe.....I can do this

Color replacement realy works just fine

I hanve used color replacemetn on some wire satelite dsihs that was pre renderd in 3D Studio MAX. I needed transparency so i did it
Here are 3 pictures that show that color replacement is very good tool when you set it right.

STEP 1.
Get the 3D wire model renderd, and get it in PS.

STEP 2.
Use color replacement to change the wireframe (from white to bright blue). Than just do magic erase of the black background.

STEP 3.
Insert it into the poster...

I could not find the original dish photo so here is final. Wonder where did she go??? Never mind...
