Question 'Extended' Pentagram Wallpaper - Help

Hello Everyone!

I've been working on this wallpaper concept for awhile now, and I have tried many things to successfully complete it. However I need a bit of assistance, although constructive criticism is appreciated. I will include a screenshot to show anyone interested how far I have progressed.

My idea was to create a fair sized pentagram in the (vertical/horizontal) centre of the picture. Then I want to extend the lines of the star (within the circle) to the border, creating 5 segments in which I could put the band of my choice. If anyone has seen the layout of the DVD by Slipknot called Diasterpieces, that is what I am trying to do.

I always try to keep a close eye on details, so I am trying to keep everything perfectly aligned and I would prefer to avoid pixilation. That perfectionist way of thinking is the only thing holding me back. Thank you in advance for your suggestions and assistance.

Thanks Again,
Andrew

Ok, I'm not exactly certain what you are asking, but the cover design appears to be a 9-sided star that is encircled with a circle and then another circle outside that combined with outer glow.

Make sense?

Yeah you got the rough idea right. I foolishly left my specific question out of my first post

What is the best way of extending the lines to the edge of the picture? I know how to achieve the affect that is visible on Disasterpieces (i'm talking about where the DVDs are when you open the case). I am just having trouble with the alignment of the extended lines? Does that clarify my question? (thanx for the quick response by the way)

EDIT: If need be I can take a picture of the inside of the case with my digital camera.
Here is an online picture I found, fair quality, minicule size.

Ok, few more questions. Are you just taking the design from the cover and placing your DVD selections on top of it, or are you starting from scratch and recreating the design? If you are recreating the design itself extending the line would be easier. If not, then you might consider going about it in a different way.

All I would like to do is create a blank template with no fancy effects to work from to create a background for myself (and a few friends). So just the basic pentagram (5-sided, although I may change that) in the middle with the lines of the star extending outside the circle. That will create 5 different segments, in those segments I will put photos of my favourite bands (or people or objects for other people's backgrounds). Quite simple, I just want a few suggestions on how to extend the lines outside the circle while keeping it clean and aligned.

If it helps the pentagram in the thumbnail attached to my first post is a seperate layer. One layer for the pentagram, and subsequent layers for the lines extending outward.

These are just off the top of my head so to speak, I am certain there are many more ways.

The line tool could be used, I tried it with a 5 pixel stroke, then gave it both an inner and outer glow in a soft, warm yellow. It is layered behind the pentagram but in front of the band photo.

Another way would be to do almost the same thing with the brush tool at a 45 degree angle again using the inner and outer glow.

You would want to work with the opacity of the glow so the band photo is still clearly visible and maybe change the blend mode to soft light or even screen. Play around and find one that you think works.

As to the line from the pentagram pointing directly to the mid-point of the band photo, it might take a little bit of adjustment and moving and stretching the photo into position. That's what I did, I did not rotate the pentagram itself, just the band photos.

Thumbs up

Thank you very much for your help, it is greatly appreciated. From what I read you actually made something similar to what I am trying to do in order to help me? If so thank you is an understatement.

I will either update this thread with the finished product or create a thread in the showroom section and post a link here to the showroom thread.

If any other members have suggestions of their own feel free to post them.

Thank you again,
Andrew
