Photoshop CS, instead of putting your brushes in the Adobe Photoshop Only folder, if you put it in the brushes folder can it also be used for other programs? within adobe?

NeoLokie, I am kinda new, so what's up with your apparent dislike of coreldraw and painter? I use both...each serves a purpose.

ecntrc, brushes placed in the Adobe Photoshop Only folder can only be used in Photoshop. However, if the brush filelibrary is an ".abr" extension file and NOT placed in the PS Only folder, it can be used in ImageReady also. As far as Illustrator goes, I have only been able to use file extension ".ai" libraries.

Just to confuse you a little more....if you use Paint Shop Pro, some of the brush libraries can be used in PS by changing the file extension. So unless the brush file/library states it is for use by PS Only, I always place it outside that folder.

Another little quirk to consider are file versions. Often a brush file/library will work only in a specific version of PS. Just another little thing to keep in mind.

You say you are using CS version, was it worth the upgrade? I am still working in PS 7 and just don't have the cash yet for upgrade. Am thinking will wait little longer.

Just load up all your brushes then when you go to your brush picker you can scroll down and see em all. That's what I do anyway, seems to work out ok - even through hundreds of brushes.

Ah soo... LOL I did the same thing come to think of it as I was reading your post. Im such an idiot. It worked like that for me when I was using PS 7. Thanks for reminding my rusty memory I appreciate it.

As for the upgrade, I got PS CS for under 100$.. I know I cant say where so I wont. But, I think its about the same to be honest. I could be wrong. I know there are so much more things I can be doing with PS but I have only limited time sometimes. I can only work real hard and for long periods of hours late at night but I am also disturbed at that becuse I have to end up going to sleep because i gotta wake up real early (6am) to take my husband to work. but.. I think your fine in PS CS. If you want to know specific differences between PS 7 and PSCS Id say google it.. or ask anyone on here.. I have PS 7 on my other comp..

If you have all of your brushes loaded concurrently, how does that affect your system performance during boot-up and general use? If it's anything like having loads of styles loaded and ready for use it must slow things somewhat.

When loading PS period it takes a few seconds, as for the brushes they load perfectly fine..

Absolutely it was worth the upgrade in my opinion...I was using Photoshop 7 before I got CS and I am ready to get CS2. CS is awesome but some of the additional functions in CS2 will be even better. If you use the program frequently then you will get more than your money's worth from the upgrade. I would get CS2 when you do have the cash and skip CS. But of course that is my opinion. I can tell you that the transition from 7 to CS was fairly easy as the interface and most of the basics remain the same.

As for loading all the brushes at once when you load a new list append instead of replace and you will be able to load them all (provided you have enough memory on your computer to handle them all...if you have a lot of custom brushes and don't have massive amounts of memory you will run into an issue with it slowing down the application).
